Advanced Feature of Power bi
The world’s most valuable resource is no longer oil, but data and David Mccandless says data is not new oil but it’s a new soil. Is it not disturbing where the oil was ruling the world but now it’s the data. Data is good but the analytics makes it great, means that data without processing does not provide us any information. The goal behind is to turn the data information and information into insights. Power bi is one of the tool used to analyze and obtain the insight from the data.
- Button
Buttons play a major role in power bi reports and dashboards. The main intension of using buttons is that for page or visual navigation and exploration of visual. Button is used for performing the action. The buttons can perform different types of actions called Back, Bookmark, Drill through, Page navigation, Q&A, web url.
Let us take an example of Covid Cases dataset with 2 scenarios. The recovered case analysis and confirmed case analysis with respect to the country.
As we can see in the above diagram, we have created the 2 bookmarks, dedicated for each button that is one for confirmed and one for recovered
- Customized Time Slicer
Default time slicer might not be convenient every time. In order to avoid all the existing drawbacks for time slicer, the customized time slicer overcome the existing drawback. This Dax query will help the user to create the customized dashboards. The
From the above query, Once the calculated table is created, the query can be used in the slicer visual, which result out like this
- Bookmarks and Selection Pane
There sometimes comes the scenario where the user should be shown only the certain state of report, in that scenario the user had to use the bookmarks feature provided by power bi
The user has to set the visuals for the bookmarks created, according to the requirement. For example when the user is creating the new bookmark called renamed it as Page refresh 1 on double of bookmark, then the three visual are set to show for visual 1, visual 2 and visual 5, the the user has to select the update option for the bookmark. When any button is assigned for bookmark called Page refresh 1, then the user will be able to view the three visuals(visual 1, visual 2, visual 5).
- Filter Pane in Power BI
In order to analyze the data for only particular specific factors and also to have more control over the dataset. In case if we want to filter the entire tab of the dashboard. we can drag and drop the column from the dataset to the filter to filter the dashboard as well as to filter all the tabs of the dashboard
